The Mobilize.Net Silverlight Bridge is now released for general availability. This tool, which greatly reduces the effort to transform Windows Silverlight Phone 8.x code to the new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) is a free add-on for Visual Studio. I blogged about it recently when we released the technical preview.
With 2300 initial mappings this handles about 80% of the API frequency found in existing SL Phone apps in the Windows Store. Since the project is also in GitHub, we expect a community to develop around this and increase the available coverage. So far the initial response from developers moving their projects over has been positive, with one user claiming 95% coverage. There are a bunch of differences between the old and the new; this blog post describes some of them and this wiki on GitHub covers more, as well as how to write your own mappings.
The release marks the completion of this project from our engineering team; if you would like assistance with your SL Phone to UWP migration you can contact us for more information. If you are in the Silverlight Web world and wondering about moving off of it, please give me (or any of us here) a call or drop us a line at info@mobilize.net for information about migration Silverlight to HTML.
